NY Shelters to be Required to Track Intake and Euthanasia Rates
A bill in New York that has passed the Assembly and the Senate, A. 10715, will require shelters that receive state funding to keep track of and make public the following numbers:

Note: The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals estimates that approximately 60 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats entering shelters are euthanized each year. No-kill shelters aim to end the euthanization of healthy but homeless animals.

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is once again trying to reduce the shelter holding period for strays from 4 or 6 days to 3.
Under the governor's proposal for reducing the state deficit, stray animals could be euthanized after 3 days.
