Colorado Governor Signs Bill to End Factory Farming Abuses

Update May 16, 2008: Governor Bill Ritter has now signed this landmark bill!

Original report: Colorado has become the fourth state along with Florida, Arizona and Oregon to ban gestation crates for pregnant pigs. It has become the second state along with Arizona to make it illegal to keep veal calves in too small enclosures.

Iowa Bill Says Horses are No Longer Livestock - and That's a Good Thing!

Original report: Like a number of states, for purposes of the animal cruelty laws, Iowa classifies equines as livestock.

In Iowa it is illegal for someone to injure or destroy someone else's livestock intentionally such as by poisoning, shooting or trapping. Iowa Code § 717.1A

FDA Approves Use of Cloned Animals for Food

Update January 18, 2007: Despite a finding by the Senate in the Farm bill that more study is needed, the Food and Drug Administration decided this week to allow production and marketing of food from cloned animals except sheep.
The FDA explained, "Extensive evaluation of the available data has not identified any subtle hazards that might indicate food consumption risks in healthy clones of cattle, swine or goats".
