Dallas continues to have high euthanasia rates despite efforts to improve spay/neuter and adoptions including the building of a new shelter facility this past year.

A September 24, 2007 report by Dallas Animal Services and Adoption Center Operations reported the city impounded "more than 35,000 this year....Euthanasia rate is high and the adoption rate is low."

I [have] read [Nathan Windograd's book,] Redemption.

I spent almost a year as the director of the local so called "humane" society in Wooster, Ohio. I came into a high kill shelter and in one month stopped all the killing of dogs and ran a no kill for space county shelter (taking all the stray dogs) with a daily average of 38 dogs in the kennel. (The kennel is designed to hold 50+ dogs.)

County Shelter Locked Up and Animals Left for Dead

Camden, Tennessee police and the Benton County sheriff have shut down the Benton County Animal Shelter. On Friday, January 11, 2008 several rescues and volunteers along with authorities entered the facility. The police and sheriff's deputies were forced to break a lock to get inside.

Court Rules Against Los Angeles County on Preliminary Motions

Update March 10, 2008: Los Angeles County and the other defendants filed a motion to dismiss, claiming private citizens such as the plaintiffs don't have standing to force them to comply with the law. The Court disagreed and overruled the motion, calling the defense arguments "wrong" and "spurious".
