Tulsa, Oklahoma has abandoned its policy of not adopting out pit bulls or pit bull mixes. The city's animal shelter has announced it will allow these dogs to be adopted.

Pennsylvania to Allow Breed Bans?

Pennsylvania law forbids breed discrimination. Section 459.507-A(c). Click here to find other states that do not allow breed bans or other breed specific legislation.

But Pennyslvania State Rep. John Galloway has introduced a bill, H.B. 2553, that would repeal the ban on breed discrimination. This bill would allow local governments to ban or regulate dogs based on breed.

Minnesota Fends Off a Breed Ban - So Far

By a vote of 66-1 Minnesota's Senate passed amendments today to the state's dangerous dog laws. These amendments are pending in the state's House of Representatives.

Supporters successfully fended off any amendment to add a breed ban.

Update March 27, 2008: Mayor Don Kiser has said he still wants restrictions on pit bulls but he is willing to accept these dogs can continue to live in the town.
