Take the Poll on Whether the UK Should Ban Rottweilers
Canadian Government Silencing Critics of the Seal Hunt?
Though the Canadian government seems oblivious to the cruelty of the continuing seal hunt, it has decided to put on trial five critics.
Beginning this week 2 Canadians, 2 Americans and 1 Briton will face charged in Isles de la Madeleine in Quebec for coming within 10 meters of seal hunters, a violation of federal regulations concerning marine mammals.

An Idea Whose Time Has Come: Banning Sale of Dogs and Cats by Pet Stores
A way to target the impulse shopper.
New South Wales in Australia may ban sales of cats and dogs from pet stores. It wouldn't be the first place to do so. Both Belgium and Croatia recently banned such sales.
Clover Moore, the parliamentarian advocating the proposal, explained it as a way to crack down on impulse buying of cats and dogs. It is the impulse shoppers who when they buy animals, actually support the puppy and cat mills that are churning out animals like factories. For more on puppy mills, click here.

Animals Left Starving in Aftermath of Devastating Fires in Greece
Wildfires during the past week in Greece have left little in their wake but a barren landscape. The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) estimates the fires killed 66 people and destroyed "more than 4,000 homes in 110 villages and nearly 500,000 acres of countryside and farmland".
It will take at least 6 months to grow new crops. In the meantime the animals, most of which are free range, have nothing for food. Farmers and ranchers generally have no insurance in Greece.
There are also lost or stray dogs and other animals, frightened and hungry.
Ethiopia Takes a Step Back as It Reaches Third Millenium
To "clean up" its streets ahead of its Millennium celebration set to begin September 12, Ethiopia plans to get rid of stray dogs with meat laced with strychnine. The meat will be placed around as "bait". The poison will cause the dogs a great deal of pain and convulsions before death. Of course, there is danger that small children, pets and other animals will get hold of the poisoned meat and die similar deaths.
