Anti Fur Society Calls on the Mexican Government to Stop Horse Slaughter

Anti Fur Society bannerThe Anti Fur Society is going head to head with the Mexican government in an all out bid to stop horse slaughter in that country. Now that horse slaughter in the U.S. has been shut down, horses are transported on long arduous journeys to Mexican horse slaughterhouses, most notably San Bernabe in the city of Almoloya de Juarez.

After enduring a long trip most likely without food or water, crammed into a trailer, unable to raise their heads or stand normally, the horses that survive are pushed or dragged into the slaughterhouse. During their terrible journey many have sustained serious injuries, including fractures. Their pain and terror is unimaginable.

Once inside the horse slaughterhouse, each horse is jabbed repeatedly with a puntilla knife with the idea this will somehow render the horse senseless before slaughter. But of course it doesn't. After a dozen or so jabs, the terrified animal may fall, stunned. Usually still conscious or at least  alive, the horse is then shackled and hoisted upside down and its throat is slit.

Don't take my word for it. Click here for more information including videos of this brutal, gruesome death.

The Anti Fur Society has called for a boycott of Mexico and its products.  The Anti Fur Society calls on everyone to send emails to Mexican officials to protest this cruel treatment:

Sample Letter:

President Felipe Calderon Hinojosa

United Mexican States

Dear President Calderon:

However much in need of income the people of San Bernabe might be, nothing in this world can justify so much barbarianism and pain inflicted on defenseless animals. Horses, after a life of service to their owners, are discarded in San Bernabe to meet with a cruel and barbaric slaughter process. In a civilized world and modern times these archaic methods are unacceptable and unwarranted.

San Bernabe and the other horse slaughter plants in Mexico are tainting the entire Mexican society in the eyes of the international world. Please take notice that by way of this letter that I will not be visiting Mexico or purchasing any goods marketed with a Mexican label. I am advising all my associates as well to do the same until horse slaughter is banned.

I am disgusted and repulsed by photos and videos of  how slaughter is performed in the horse slaughter "plants" of San Barnabe.  Old horses, young, healthy, sick, pregnant mares...none escape the inhumane, indeed barbarian deaths at the hands of cold hearted butchers.  It seems that in your country there is an extreme lack of humanity!  In addition, I am adding the other horse slaughter plants in Mexico, as they are not much better.

Europeans are the main consumers of horse meat, but they surely are not aware of the horse slaughter monstrosity and lack of hygiene of San Barnabe.  It is imperative that the European Parliament, and their public become aware of how tortured their meat was, since there are still people in this world with a minimum of human decency.

This information has been sent worldwide to friends, family and groups that I participate and will be until this atrocity ends. They in turn, are also sending this information to their friends, relatives and internet groups.

I have visited Mexico many times and truly enjoyed the beauty and wonder of your country, but I will not ever do so again until horse slaughter is banned!

Please do the moral thing and stop this barbarism.

Sincerely,

(Please send returned mails to:  AntiFurSociety@msn.com )
