Group Organizes to Abolish Horse Slaughter in Canada
The Canadian Horse Defense Coalition, www.defendhorsescanada.org has launched an effort to "end ...equine slaughter in Canada."Â
Now that horse slaughter for human consumption has ended in the U.S., even more horses are likely to be exported to Canada for slaughter. Especially if the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act does not pass the Congress - or is vetoed by President George W. Bush. (For more on that pending bill and how it will stop American horses from being shipped to Canada and other countries for slaughter for human consumption, click here. Support the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act
Sinikka Crosland, Executive Director of Canadian Horse Defense Coalition, has announced as its first effort, "We are featuring 12 compelling photographs of horses in an upcoming calendar that will be distributed to Canadian legislators."Â
If you have a favorite image that you would like to share for possible inclusion in the 2008 calendar, one that is "tasteful, unique... that portray[s] the majesty, nobility, personality, and intelligence of the horse", please e-mail your photographs and include your horse's name and a brief description of how he/she has impacted your life, to: info@defendhorsescanada.org . The deadline is September 28, 2007. Photos and stories not chosen will be featured on the website which will also soon showcase case histories of rescued horses.
