FL Lawmakers Hope to End Illegal Slaughter of Horses

horsesFlorida lawmakers hope to put an end to the theft and illegal slaughter of horses that have plagued areas of Miami Dade and Broward Counties. About two dozen horses have been found brutally dismembered.

Police have made arrests and say at least one suspect has confirmed stealing horses from their stalls and slaughtering them to sell their meat on the black market.

Sacia Tries Again

horseIllinois state Rep. Jim Sacia has wasted no time this year in introducing H.B. 4812, a bill to repeal the state's 2007 ban on slaughtering horses for human consumption.  Similar bills introduced by Rep. Sacia in 2008 and 2009 failed to pass.
