Animal Law Coalition wants you to tell us about the situations in which people are treating animals cruelly. This forum will explore the laws that exist to prevent animals from suffering and whether or not they work and why and what laws may be needed.

Everyday we hear and read about heartbreaking cases of animal cruelty. The suffering inflicted on animals is obvious. But many of these cases are simply not prosecuted or at least not prosecuted aggressively. Part of the reason may be because of vague animal cruelty laws. This makes it difficult to prove a crime was committed. Many times, though, animal cruelty cases are simply not a priority for prosecutors. They may be overwhelmed with prosecuting crimes to people. It may simply be a matter of education and awareness. Certainly, it might help for prosecutors to know about the "link" between animal cruelty and domestic and other violence to humans. Animal cruelty is a strong indicator the perpetrator is likely to commit domestic violence including child abuse and other violent acts. Please use this forum to bring awareness about pending animal cruelty cases and how Animal Law Coalition members and readers can help encourage prosecution of these crimes.

The conditions in which farm animals live and die can be deplorable particularly on factory farms. Let us know of a situation or issue involving abusive and cruel conditions for these animals. Let us know of pending legislation or laws you would like to propose. What are the problems in ending the cruel and inhumane treatment of these animals? What is the best approach?

Cleo was a special dog who lived at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. YOu can see her photo in the Animal Law Coalition banner. She will always be remembered for her love of people, the joy she had in living. She would go right up to people of all ages from all walks of life and make friends. She would hit you with her paw if you weren't petting her enough. But she could never find a home . Animal Law Coalition does not want this to happen to any other dog. We also recognize that any spay/neuter program, mandatory or otherwise, will only effectively reduce shelter intake and euthanasia rates if it is coupled with aggressive fostering and adoption programs. Please use Cleo's Forum to post information about animals in need of homes.
