Participate in the Poll to Support Trap Neuter Return for Feral Cats

The Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Project has altered over 30,000 cats in the Puget Sound area of Washington state.  The local public television station, KCTS, has run a program featuring the work on this group.

In conjunction with the program, KCTS has posted an online poll at http://www.kcts.org/poll/  that asks if you support trap and kill, Trap-Neuter-Return, or simply leaving feral cats alone.  So far, people have overwhelmingly indicated their support for TNR, but the votes for "catch and euthanize" are increasing, so we would like you to add your voice.

Ferals

Why are wild cats any different from squirrels, raccoons, possums, ...let them be!!! I believe we need to keep the population down so they dont get killed by humans. They are the most beautiful and non threatening of any wild animal, and just want to be left alone, like we leave alone all the other wildlife. The Lord wouldn't have put them here. They are not bugs, like fleas or mosquitos, find something else to kill, like terrorists, leave our wildlife alone!!! Nancy Sowers

Feral cats aren't wildlife

There isn't one wildlife species on earth that hasn't been messed with by man - that is not a good thing; but it doesn't make it any less true. We can't seem to leave any animals alone. Like it or not, humans change their environment. And as such, all animals (wild, domestic and feral) feel it.

First, cats are domestic animals. Cats did not exist in the wild. MAN bred them to exist - so we have a duty to care for them now that we're irresponsibly let them breed in an environment they were not meant to live.

Second, they are prolific breeders. What is wrong with spaying and neutering? It's great, actually! It not only protects them from having all sorts of reproductive cancers - it protects them from diseases spread by fighting, since it tends to level hormones, decrease fighting, decrease wandering (i.e., wandering where someone will harm them) and the best part of all, it protects unwanted kittens from being born - just to die! 75% of feral kittens don't even survive.

Why wouldn't we want to stop them from being born into a world where they don't belong, where they don't have caregivers and where their lives will be short and most-likely painful? It's compassionate and the right thing to do.

Spaying and neutering is a FANTASTIC thing to do. Too bad more people aren't giving enough to spend their own money to care for an animal that they see, feed or came across. Come on people, get off your bums. Do something nice for these human-created beings.

It's our responsibility.

Feral Cats

Yes, I support TNR for feral cat colonies. They are a part of nature and have been around for thousands of years. KM

TNR for feral cats

I second that! Let them live, just not multiply. Anytime we can avoid killing, that is the way to go.
