I currently own a pit-bull and am in the process of adopting another. I am a responsible parent and have put my dog trough specific training for this breed of dog & am in total heartache to think I could loose him & my soon to be little girl. As as Ohio resident I am unable to rent ANY apartment because of the Breed Restrictions and cannot affort to buy a house at this time. Im only a college student! SO.... I am forced to litterally leave the state & I urge other owners to do the same. Its terrible and just totally sickening to think political leaders can be so cruel!!

Your are so right, the history of these dogs has been so far strected its ridiculous. I have apodopted three myself and have done lots of training with them as well. I chose this breed because I felt it would be three less dogs in the hands of a criminal. I am a very responsible owner and love my dogs with all my heart. I have an 8 year old Golden Retriever and a 3 year old Pit Bull and I love both my dogs. But my pit bull is even more well behaved than my golden retriever and is even friendlier than my golden as well. I love my pit bull to death. This is supposed to be a free country right? Well than how come we cant have what we want? So if they ban pit bulls and we have to get rid of our dogs than this is NOT a free country but a country where we have to be told what we can and can not have! And I honestly dont want to live in a place like that.So whoever out there thinks pit bulls need to go.. well I think YOU need to go! Pit Bulls are wonderful family dogs and my pit bull (Diesel) has been around my 14 month old daughter since she was born. BSL needs to come to a screeching halt. Banning the breed will not stop the criminals who train the dog to fight from owning them - criminals break the law anyways, more laws won't stop them - but it will stop responsible owners like you from owning the breed.
People need to quit believing all the stupid myths spread about Pit Bulls. Myths like they have locking jaws (any person who knows dog anatomy would laugh such a notion out). Myths like they were bred to fight and so it's in their genes. Well I have something to tell them. True, they can be trained to fight, but all the training in the world won't make a dog trained to fight have puppies who automatically know how to fight. It's a training thing, NOT a genetics thing.
Most people couldn't identify a Pit Bull to save their lives. There are several breeds that resemble Pit Bulls and are quite often mistaken for them.

That's my dog when he met a Staffordshire Terrier, a breed that is very closely related to the American Pit Bull Terrier and is included in the breed bans. That dog and my dog got along just like any other dog.
My personal experience says quite a bit as to why the position that 'regulating breeds' is not the answer to this 'supposed' problem. My family, over the course of my life, has had numerous mutts. These have included a wolf-malumute hybrid that withstood me as a baby yanking clods of hair from her coat, several shepard-mixs, a rotweiler-mix, and now a pure-blood stafford pit we found on the roadside. As of now, we have a lab-mix, rotweiler-mix, shepard-malamute-mix, and the pit; all of which live peacfully under our small roof. The pit is my mom's lap-dog and the lab is the boss of the pack. Through-out my life with these 'dangerous' dogs, not one has snapped at me. I have even been able to seperate the rotweiler from a fight with a stray. He never snapped at me once he knew who it was. Needless to say, I oppose this regulation and dare anyone to justify the acts of humans on their pets.

Ah, but you're assuming that Pitties really are dangerous. Do your research on them. I've done MY research and have come to the conclusion that they are just as good pets as a Labrador. BTW, Labs have killed people too. I can tell you several cases.
Part of the what I learned from my research is that they temperament tested some Pit Bulls and about 80% of the Pit Bulls testes passed the test. And that temperament test was very strict.
BTW, I'm against gun control. In the right hands, guns are useful. They can be used for protection and outlawing guns won't stop criminals from using them, but it will stop citizens from being able to protect themselves from criminals with guns.
It's pretty much the same with Pitties. They're extremely loyal and in the wrong hands can be killing machines. BUT, in the right hands, they are loving and friendly dogs.
I've met 5 Pit Bulls over the course of a year and they were the friendliest dogs I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.
