A bill to ban all pit bulls from the state
127th General Assembly Regular Session 2007-2008 H. B. No. 568
Representative Yates
A BILL
To amend section 955.11 and to enact section 955.111 of the Revised Code to prohibit the owning, keeping, or harboring of pit bull dogs beginning ninety days after the effective date of the act and to require specified officers to seize all pit bull dogs after that date.

My Dog
I've owned many pit bulls in my life. I currently own a ten month old puppy that literally won't hurt a fly. My mother owns an akita that has shown aggression torwards humans and my sister has a great dane that has animal aggression. If this bill is passed I will be forced to move out of ohio. I will not let anything happen to my dog. I will quit my job and sell my house. It is unfair to every resposible dog owner to even contemplate this. I believe that dogs should be put down if they act in an aggressive manor. I think that minimum penalties should be increased for dog fighting and animal cruelty. Nobody would fight pits if you got a mandatory ten years in prison.
LOVE MY PITBULL!!
ICIS is one of the cutest nicest funniest pitbulls ever.. She is a great pet... She is a awesome dog. She loves kids and other animals.. She sleeps in my bed at night and thinks she is human... I would never give her up for nothing. But now you are telling me that I might not be able to keep her because of this ban... Whatever I pay my taxes and for what when you are tell me I might have to get rid of her..
Love my Pitbulls
I have always had pitbulls in my home with my kids and cats... They are the best most loyal dog out there and that is why the are so easily trained to do thing that people want them to like fight... We should ban people not dogs... All dogs can be killers not just pitbulls...We are to blame not the dogs... People are the reason for these wonderful beautiful loyal animals to be the way they are...We don't live in the home of the free.... Just look SMOKING BAN!!!! NOW PITBULL BAN!!! GIVE ME A BREAK!!! We pay our taxes and for what????? We love our PITBULLS
...
Pit Bulls
OMG!!! I thought we lived in the land of the free? I am in total disbelief that someone is even considering a bill that would destroy life. I am the owner of several Chihuahuas, my son owns a pitbull. I can guarantee you that if you step foot inside my fence my Chihuahuas will attack, at best the pitbull might lick you to death. Our pets are family members and treated as such. To even try to imagine someone having the right to come into my home, take one of my family members and destroy them is beyond belief. The breed of dog has nothing to do with its aggressiveness, any dog can be made aggressive. Why not focus on the people making dogs aggressive instead of murdering innocent family members.
It's not your right!!!
I agree completly. It seems that the people who are scared of pit bulls and want to get rid of them have never owned or had a good experiance with a pit bull. Like everyone else on this page says IT IS NOT THE DOG IT IS THE OWNER. If the dog has never been exposed to violence or fighting then there is no reason for the dog to misbehave and lash out (it is all about what the animal is exposed to- just like humans!). You can't sit here and tell me that a pit bull is the only dangerous dog breed. Rottweiler, german shepard, bull dog, bullmastiff and other large breeds can be dangerous as well. It is the owner who should be punished if they can not control or train their dog correctly. I have two pit bulls myself and i have never found a more well behaved, more intelligent, or more loving animal. These congress men, EXPECIALLY REPRESENTATVE YATES, who say that all pits should be takin from their owners should actually spend some time with these animals. It is a biased opionion that is not backed by any research or logic. HOW SHOULD HE BE THE ONE TO DECIDE WHETHER MY DOG IS A VICIOUS ANIMAL! Try taking away someones child! No? Why? Because that would be wrong and injustice! Exactly taking these family members (PIT BULLS) away from their owners will only create anger from the owners and injustice against the animals and the owners right to have the right to own a pit bull. The other large breed dogs such as the rottweiler will only raise in numbers if all pit bulls are put down. Large breed owners want large dogs....what will be the next scapegoat?
I find it hard to believe that REPRESENTATIVE YATES owns one of these animals nor one of his family members. Americans always find someone or something else to blame besides themself. MAYBE THE DOG IS A REFECTION OF THE OWNER!!! MAYBE? Did we ever think of that? It just sickens me that anyone could do this to an animal. HOW IS THIS NOT ANIMAL CRULTY? REPRESENTATIVE YATES HAS NO RIGHT!!!!
My dog, My decision
It was astonishing to me to hear that this ban has been proposed. I hadn't heard about it until very recently and it made me sick!!! I have 2 american staffs and they are two of the best dogs I have ever owned. I also have a mut and of all my dogs, he is the one that I don't trust, but I choose to rescue dogs that deserve a better chance at life. I also beleive that it is my right as an American to decide what type of dog I choose to own. If Ohio doesn't want my dog, FINE, I'll move to Indiana or Kentucky where the state will accept my dog and pay my taxes there. It's amazing that Ohio councils want us tax payers to kill our dogs. How is this ban any better than sticking them in a ring and killing them all. As for those who choose to post their views on how this would be a positive change for Ohio, those who are truely uneducated on the breed or their capabilities, educate yourself. I was bitten by a rot when I was 5 and the best thing I ever did was own one after that. A dog repsonds to how it is treated and raised, guess what my rot never bit me!
God Bless American and my PITTS

A picture is worth a thousand words
Look at this picture and tell me Pit Bulls are vicious.

In a 7 year study done only 1.89% of the bites were done by Pit Bulls. Pit Bulls ranked 4th...from the BOTTOM. Labradors and Cocker Spaniels ranked higher than the Pit Bull.
There will always be a breed out there society will want to take their anger out on. It was once the German Shepard, Chow, Rottweiler. All of which I have grown up with. Unfortunately, now the Pit Bull is our society's scapegoat.
I have the pleasure of owning two Pit Bulls. They are my babies. I wouldn't know what to do without them. They are wonderful with dogs, guinea pigs, cats, children.
Dogs learn what they have been taught.
Punish the deed, not the breed.
RE: A picture is worth a thousand words
That picture does not change the mind of those citizens who support this ban. You can take the most vicious dog in the world and make him appear placid in a photo. While your dogs are cute, and appear peaceful, they are still pit bulls, and can turn for no apparent reason. It's a problem with this breed, and one of the reasons they're considered a vicious animal. The problem with people like yourself is you are not concerned for the breed, you're concerned for yourself and not for the safety and rights of others. You're only worried about losing YOUR own dogs. If it was a ban on fox terriers, and you had a couple we would be seeing your fox terriers instead of pit bulls.
It is people like YOU who ruin lives of responsible owners
No shit you would be seeing pictures of my "fox terriers" if they were the breed being banned. NO dog should be banned. It is not the dogs fault. The dogs actions are all in how the dog is raised. I'm only concerned about myself and losing my dogs? For your information I am stationed in a completely different state due to the military. Therefore; I will not lose my dogs. I responded to this because feel for all the families who may lose their loved ones. It is up to responsible pit bull owners to stand up for the breed and bash the reputation society has given them.
In response to: "Your
In response to: "Your picture doesn't change the minds of people who support the ban". The band doesn't change the minds of people who support owning pit bulls. No dog (not just pit bulls) should be punished for something they did not do. By all means, if a dog attacks someone or something they should be taken away, but it is completely inhumane to euthanize thousands of dogs who have done nothing but love their families.
reply to anonymous' reply
the problem with people like yourself is that you are mis-informed about the breed, and obviously do not know anything about dogs on an instinctual level. dogs don't turn on you for "no apparent reason", mother nature doesn't work that way. if dogs by instinct wanted to hurt humans, then why did HUMANS decide to domesticate them? Dogs in the wild do not attack other dogs or animals for no reason, there is always a reason. Mother nature has a reason for everything, survival. It is because humans domesticated dogs that we have screwed up their instincts and if dogs are not fulfilled the way mother nature intended then bad situations occur, again because of lack of human understanding about dogs. It is the overwhelming majority of drug dealers and irresponsible PEOPLE that use a powerful breed for the wrong purposes, such as intimidation, and also do not properly care for the dog, not neutering males for example, that cause sorts of situations that result in a bite that you would describe as for "no apparent reason", where the reason is extremely "apparent". The dog OWNER was irresponsible and should be punished accordingly. A dog that is medically cared for and properly handled WILL NOT bite for no apparent reason. Maybe if people like yourself would stop focusing the blame on the animal and start realizing that HUMANS are the supieror being and should be held responsible for the actions they allow from their dogs, then we wouldn't have as many cases of humans mistreating dogs- resulting in dog attacks. If a person is allowed to puchase and own a dog, it should be the owners fault for the dogs actions. If a parent has prescription medicine and leaves the bottle out and uncapped and a child takes some pills and is posioned, im sure you wouldn't blame the medicine for hurting people for no apparent reason and ban all medicine that could potentially be harmful to people it's not for. Instead, you would most certainly blame the irresponsible parent for mishandling the medicine and allowing an opprotunity for a bad situation to occur in the first place
HB 568 IS WRONG!
Look at the temperament testing for all dogs. These dogs are not the vicious dogs. The family lab or golden retriever have a worse testing than the pit bull and am staffs do. Are they going to be the next on the list to be destroyed, I doubt. Everyone has drummed up the reputation of them being wonderful family dogs. They can attach also, and with their size can do some damage also. Look at other side. The pitbulls have horrible reputations, and yet most are wonderful dogs. They were breed to never harm humans. They strive to please there masters, unfortunately some of their masters have not been good ones and have trained these dogs to fight and be mean. The masters that have done this should be the ones punished – not the breed. If you take this breed away, you will spend all this money doing this and for what? The crime will still be there, there will be another breed of dog used and another ban will be put in place and more and more innocent families will have to pay the price with the life of their loved pet. Is this the kind of society you what to live in? Before long the state of Ohio should just put in place that no one can own a dog unless it weighs less than 10 pounds. This bill is wrong and should never be passed. Spend the money on more useful productive solutions to crime, unemployment, perhaps education against animal abuse and cruelty.
100%
I support this bill 100%. While there may be an exception to the rule, the pit bull breed is very unpredictable. It horrifies me that any parent would want to take a chance with their chidren's lives just to have such an animal. Moreover, I have never read stories of black labs attacking their owners or killing the owner's children with or without provocation, but I have read many stories, and have seen with my own eyes the damage a pit bull can cause. I have to wonder what is wrong with a society that would propone such an animal. Has our love for blood and violence gotten so bad that we will do anything to see the pit bull survive including sacrificing our own children and those of others.
wow
you are one stupid person you have read you have read that pit bulls are dangerous and that black labs have not killed people any dog any dog can turn they where once wild animals. Think about what you are saying wild bears have attack people mountain lions have attacked people should they be killed to extinction too. Pit bulls are a very misunderstood bread that has been highlighted because of stupid people that choose to make the dog mean and fight them. I mean just the other day one of my business associates sons where attacked by a husky should they kill all of them too. The rule should be judges on a case by case basis if the dog acts aggressive then by all means do what you have to do but the fact is pit bulls are just like any animal they were domesticated from the wild I love my pit.
my best friend
what they propose is the forceful seizure and murder of ALL pitts regardless of temperment or legal status as a licensed family pet. This is my dog Toby, and Tyrone Yates will never get him. Mr. Yates certainly wants him. He wants to rip Toby from my home and murder him. It is akin to breaking into a family home and murdering the kids because SOME children are abused by their parents, thus increasing their chances of growing up as monsters instead of people. Even after this bill is destroyed by public outcry, we'll always remember him as the would-be murderer. You hear that Mr. Yates? You're an elected official. This constitutes a shameful betrayal of your voters. Toby is my family. He's not going anywhere.
What a load of s---!
Who do these people think they are? I don't even like dogs, but I know all sorts of people who own them. I'd say a good number are these "pitt bull" dogs. I would have to agree that a dog is the product of its environment. I personally don't allow my friends dogs, of any breed, to be in my house or around my kids. So who do these people think they are to try to take rights from ME. I don't like dogs, but I like the idea of AMERICA. I know I have the right to own whatever brand of gun I want, so I should be able to own whatever dog I want. You can't stop the people! We will not let our rights be violated like this.
PittBulls are not dangerous, people are!!
I am the owner of two american staffordshires or as most people call them Pittbulls. I have a 3 yr old female and 10 month old male, mother and son. These two animals would never hurt anyone and I think that people are wrong for believing that all pitts are the same. Like someone else has all ready stated, any animal that is in your home is a product of its environment, if your going to have a hostile household they are going to act on that, however I do not have a hostile environment and my Pitts are the best animal I have ever owned. Passing this bill is wrong. People do not take responsibility for their actions, that is why you have fighter pitts and lethal situations. Neglecting an animal no matter the breed is going to cause serious problems with that animal and that is the real problem in society. Instead of banning pitts and all other breeds that are considered dangerous why don't the government crack down on the owners that are causing these problems? Find the fighting rings and seize their equipment then deal with those owners in the legal ways. Punishing the breeds because of the owners is not the solution and I can not believe that people actually think it is. This bill is wrong, you really need to get your facts together and find a better solution.
Unconstitutional and Wrong. Way to go, Ohio!
First of all, this will never be passed. And if the State of Ohio is dumb enough to pass this, they are looking at a whole load of bad press and a whole load of lawsuits. I already know lawyers who are gearing up for this, saying it may be one of the greatest class lawsuits against a state in our generation. This is unconstitutional, based of large generalities and false assumptions of the breed. This will be unreasonable search and seizure under the law, destruction of personal property, and discrimination...just to start out.
I am an Ohio resident. I have never owned a pit bull, but I am a dog lover. I volunteer for a no-kill shelter and have seen people fight tooth and nail for their dogs in this state. If the state of Ohio enacts this flawed and ridiculous policy, then they will have a war on their hands with the pet owners of this state. It will be a nightmare for the state of Ohio. Not to mention when/if they even try to seize these dogs from their loving owners...it won't go well, I guarantee. Our tax dollars being wasted here, yet again. There will be euthanization bills to cover that will be paid for with your tax dollars, Ohio residents. Gee, do you really think that we want our tax dollars being spent this way? ...I think not.
It's not right that they are going to essentially murder good dogs in loving homes while we already have to struggle to find good dogs homes in this state and across our nation, due to the canine population explosion. Litters of puppies are killed every day, people...of all breeds. This is just stupidity.
Don't let this go by quietly, just fretting in the dark that, someday soon, you may lose your dogs. Fight for them, because they don't have voices to raise to fight for themselves. It's our responsibility.
pit bulls
our government needs to be spending more time on gas prices, food prices, people loosing their homes, the war in iraq, than wasting our tax dollars on foolish nonsense like this. how many of those so called representitives have ever had a lab and did they know those dogs have a much higher likely hood of biting than a pit bull does. PEOPLE WAKE UP AND STOP LETTING THE GOVERMENT TAKE OUR RIGHTS AWAY. any animal is a product of its enviroment, if it lives around violence it will act out, if its raised around peace and quiet it will take on those traits. animals do as they are TRAINED TO DO, they are not violent by nature. i know i have one, i also have a mean pom/spitz mix and a cat and we all live very happily inside a house with NO PROBLEMS. the pom is alpha and the pit respects her for that, and oh by the way he weighs 65 pounds the pom weighs 12 pounds.
TAKING MY RIGHT TO OWN A AMSTAFF
I MOVED FROM COLUMBUS, OHIO. I NOW LIVE IN A TRAILOR PARK, I HAVE A PURE AMSTAFF THAT HAS BEEN LABELED A VICIOUS PITBULL, I'VE BEEN TOLD TO LEAVE THE PREMISES IN 10 DAYS. IVE LIVED HERE FOR 3 MONTHS,SHE IS VERY CALM, DOESNT BARK MUCH UNLESS PEOPLE ARE AT THE DOOR. I DO NOT WALK MY DOG ON THE PREMISES, I TAKE HER ELSEWHERE. BECAUSE OF THE HUNDREDS OF REPORTS, MILLIONS OF TERRIERS ARE AT RISK. MOST OF THE PEOPLE POINTING THE FINGER ARE NOT EDUCATED ENOUGH TO EVEN KNOW THERE ARE SEVERAL BREEDS THAT MAKE UP "PIT BULL" AM I CORRECT IN SAYING THE "PITBULL" IS STRICTLY A FIGHTING BREED OF MY DOG OR DO I OWN A PITBULL. NOT SURE HOW TO PROCEED
ANY IDEAS???
They will just find another dog to fight.
I can't believe that the state gov't is so stupid. Come on people... the hoodlums will just find another dog to fight in the rings to their deaths...
Why don't they do something useful like a tethering/pen/cage ban. Most folks who are fighting pits have the dogs tethered or caged in a pen for their lives... wouldn't a 3 hour tether/pen limit be more useful?
OMG
Here, I am a month away from moving to Ohio, and this comes up! I just changed my mind! I am not having my baby girl put down, cuz of K-9 racism!
this ban is unheard of
i am a pit bull owner and wouldnt have it any other way . now about 4 years ago i was just like any one else thinking negetive about pit bulls but , my son came across a pit puppy in a vacant garage in a cage , no food no water so he brought him home , i told him first no were not keeping a pit bull then i thought about it and finally told him yes , i read up on the breed and raised him in a very loving home as a matter of facted raised 4 pit bulls and i wouldnt give them up for the world.. so this ban should be thrown out.. the public needs to own one or something before throwing sticks in everyone elses back yard , once you own one you wont want to give it up.. they are fabulouse dogs.. and have these people thought about how much tax dollars will be spent if this ban passes , putting millions of these beautiful creatures to sleep and alot of ohioans leaving the state and moving elsewhere come on people think about it..ITS NOT THE PIT BULL DOG ITS THE PEOPLE THAT RAISE THEN WRONG , PUNISH THESE PEOPLE NOT A INNOCENT ANIMAL
pit bulls
you are exactly right ,its not the dogs fault ,its the way it was raised. my daughter and boyfriend had a 1 nad a hlf yr old pit but had to surrender him to a no kill shelter and finally he was adopted out but we tried to first find him a home by going through craigs list and asking anyone if they wanted him but only as a pet not a killer dog as some people use them for ,we got a reponse and thought this was great and realized the guy was lying and this is what he intented him for and we said no,of course he was pissed but oh well.so he is now adopted to a good family only because they had to move and could not take him with them..so i agree ,dont take away a animals life because a owner doesnt know how to treat it with the respect that they deserve ..if you cant give that then dont own a pet .
There are other ways!
I volunteer at an animal shelter and have come across many pit and pit mixes, all of which are VERY kind, and loving dogs. None have ever tried to attack an employee or volunteer, ever. I would absolutely hate to see any of them get killed. There is no evidence that these laws work and just because other states are doing it does not mean that this is right. If these dogs were humans it would be called racism. There are many owners of pit bull breeds in Ohio that would hate to see their FAMILY PET who has done nothing to harm a human get destroyed. I beleive that there are other ways to stop fighting and attacks. First you would have to punish the owner instead of the dogs. Second, if you so strongly believe that this is a "vicious breed" you make it required that any owner of a pit bull must have it spayed or neutered unless it is being bred for show or other acceptable purposes. The dog would have to be muzzled when outside of the owner's property. The owners should have a fence to prevent the dog from escaping. And anything else you can think of to help keep your "vicious dogs" from attacking which it is not likely to do. Finally I would like to say that any dog can be traned to fight or attack. The only thing that makes a pit bull scary is the way it looks and how strong its jaws can potentially be. Even the sweetest family pet, including golden retrievers, labradors, german shepherds, etc., can bite. It should be known that it is the owner of the dog, the one who raises it trains it, and/or abuses/neglects it is the one responsible for a "vicious breed." There is no specific BREED that is more likely to attack than others.
:)
This is my dog patiently waiting for my cat to finish stealing his dinner. He obviously wouldn't dream of hurting the kitty. He simply waits for the cat to finish. He didn't grow up with the kitty. He's just docile. If this bill passes we will have to leave Ohio even though we can't afford to move. When I was a kid we had a very food-and-toy-aggressive and unpredictable dog. I have numerous scars from him. Needless to say, he was NOT a pitt. He was a mutt, accepted as safe by the public. So why was he the way he was? He was a rescue. He'd been abused and neglected. Case in point. Thank you for your support.

Horrible!
I am the proud owner of a pit mix. He is a great, friendly, loyal dog. Why should I be forced to have him put to sleep? We are not the ones with the vicious pits, and yet we (and our dogs) are the ones hurt by this. My dogs are spayed/neutered, licensed in my county and go to the vet every year for shots. It is the people who do not care for their dogs and use them for fighting we need to go after. How will the law be enforced onto these people? They will continue to do horrible things with these dogs. Also what is to stop them from moving on to a new breed? They should make a mandatory spay/neuter law in ohio. That would help with all the dogs and cats that end up in shelters each year. I think that would be more effective than the stupid one they are trying to pass now!!!!!
This is wrong
I have a pit bull and he is the greatest dog I have ever known. I grew up around dogs, so this means a lot. I think it is a horrible injustice that the state of Ohio would even consider killing thousands of innocent dogs speaks volumes for this Nazi state. If you ban pit bulls, the people who make them mean are going to switch to different breeds. Are you going to make is so that no resident of Ohio is able to own and dog? Give me a break! This proposed bill is ludicrous. I am all for vicious dog laws, but not a ban that won't allow me and the thousands of other responsible dog owners to keep our beloved pets.
Pit Bull Ban
I have 2 pit bulls and they are the BEST dogs I have ever had the pleasure of owning. I will continue to own this breed and will NEVER stop fighting for them. They love people, greet complete strangers, know their manners and show no aggression. I like them more than most people and trust them around anyone. My cocker spaniel showed more aggression toward people and other dogs than my 2 pit bulls combined EVER have. The State of Ohio and Mr. Yates have got to concentrate on more important things like the poverty rate, gas prices, record levels of unemployment and secondary education. Comeon Ohioans and its respresentatives, GET A LIFE and concentrate on bringing this state out of the sewer.
So stupid it is unreal
I am the proud owner of three pitt bulls. I also have two children that have lived with these dogs their whole lives. The only time one of my dogs has ever showed any aggression is when another dog tried to attack me. Don't we live in a land that is based on equality? Oh that only applies to human beings. In my opinion a state wide ban on pitt bulls is nothing more than a holocaust which if memory serves me correctly our country fought in a war based on this principal. Many may say they are just dogs, but my dogs are apart of my family. So if this bill passes I want the idiots who sign it to come to my home and explain to my five year old why her dog is being killed. Basicaly all this is saying is that if you don't like something it is okay to kill it, yet murder is illegal. Sounds like a huge contradiction to me.
I have never like Pitbulls
I have never like Pitbulls at all always thought of them mean. UNTIL I got my pitt 2 years ago. An I would not trade him for anything.. He has been raised with all 3 of my kids and is very loving .. I to hope we all can fight this and get this bill NOT to pass.. An I would to leave Ohio if I have to and wouldn't think twice.. There is no way I will hand over a member of my family .. Lets get the word out and fight this BILL.....
Education is needed--
"Pit Bull" is a classification of several breeds (American Staffordshire Terrier - Bull Terrier and Staffordshire Terrier) and to ban this breed would be absolutely absurd. According to the American Canine Temperament Testing Association, 95% of the "Pit Bull Terriers" that took its temperament test passed, compared to a 77% passing rate for all breeds on average. These "Pit Bull's" ranked 4th highest out of all 122 breeds tested by the American Temperament Testing Association. The Dachshund has a worse temperament according to ATTS than a "Pit Bull". In fact, a "Pit Bull" is comparable (scoring slightly better) in temperament to a golden retriever. These are all FACTS!! As a responsible taxpayer, voter and proud owner of 4 "Pit Bull's" that I have rescued (my last from the pound in Meigs Co. where I reside) I can not believe that a state that I have lived in for the 29 years I have been alive would even think of such a ban. I have been bitten by a dog, a Boston Terrier, should this breed be banned? The answer is NO, this was one single incident by one single dog, and was anything ever said or done? Again, the answer is NO, had this been one of my "Pit Bulls" it would be in every newspaper and on every news station within a 100 mile radius. My "children" are inside my home, not tied up outside with no human interaction. Any animal tied to a chain, never loved or hardly fed will be a non-social able and aggressive dog. I would be too if no one loved or cared at all about me. You only hear about the horror "Pit Bull" stories because that's all the media wants to tell about. Does anyone care enough about the status of the Micheal Vick "Pit Bull's", I do. I go to Best Friends or BAD RAP animal website and see how great ambassadors of the breed are doing on a regular basis. It is so good to hear good media about this breed instead of the bad. I bet most people wouldn't be doing as well if they had to go through the hell these poor animals went through. But, as my fellow bully lovers know that is a Pit Bull for you, they aim to please. This breed strides to win your love and affection. I hope the lawmakers of the state that I and my love-a-bull babies live in will NOT pass a law so insane. Maybe Representative Yates should really educate himself on this breed and think of more logical laws to pass. Maybe do something about the everyday occurrence that I see at my place of employment - people coming though the pick-up window driving their SUV'S (with gasoline at over $4.00 a gallon), picking up their free medication with a cigarette hanging out of their mouth (at $4.00 a pack) complaining about the wait because they have to go to the Post Office and pick up their free check they get at first of every month. How about pass a law that would ban me from being an idiot and working 40 hours a week and paying taxes so that others can live the high life sitting at home on their butts! That being said please stop to this unrealistic ban!

Does this mean my staffie is done for?
I have a 4 year old staffordshire bull terrier and she is the best dog. She never bites or anything of that nature. And she is my best friend. It would really suck if my dog was taken away right before 8th grade.

Pit Bulls
There is nothing wrong with the breed known as PIT BULLS. In fact they are rather tasty BARBECUED or GRILLED. Besides instead of two legs, like on a turkey, you get 4. Now that should make amyone happy that likes dark meat. YUM, YUM!
Sickening people like you in this world
What the Hell is wrong with you people. You should be the ones BBQ or Grilled. This is what is wrong with this world, sick, disgusting people like you. Its not the breed of the dog its the irresponsible owners thats the problem. The constitution says we have the right to pursue happiness, We as americans should have the right to own whatever dog we want. People are turning this country slowly but surely into a communist country. We have big brother cameras watching us, we can't disipline our kids by spanking them. What the hell is going on here. Should we put down unruly chilren next. Come on this is absolutely ridiculous. Animals are not born agressive. Agression is a learned behavior. There are already laws in place they just need to be enforced. Oh thats to hard to do somebody might actually have to work. It is so sad that we as americans are letting the government control damn near everything we do. Pathetic absolutely pathetic.
Pit Bulls
So what is the problem? Sounds like a good piece of legistlation.
You should be put down
You are an ignorant piece of shit! Don't comment on things you know nothing about
OHIO IS SO CRUEL
I have 2 pitbulls that I have owned since puppies. They are the most sweet lovaeble dogs that i have ever had. I take them on walks in the parks and they have not yet once attempted to even get away from me. Kids, other animals and adults use the same trail as I do. I had a Lhasa Apso for 17 years before my pitbulls and couldnt anyone (kids and adults) touch her. She was really good with family she knew but strangers couldnt even walk in our yard. I think the state of Ohio really needs to sit down and think about what they are doing. You are taking family members out of their home. Would you like it if someone was to come and take your children out of your home ?
Ban Pit Bulls???????????/
Why Dont You BAN the people that would come up with such a crazy idea!! Maybe Ohio should have a No Dog Ban.....A No Child Ban.....How about a Dumb People Ban!!!!
Ban Pit Bulls--
I hope and pray that my representatives Ron Gerberry & Robert Hagan vote this HB568 DOWN. I had hoped that we human beings would have rizen above "blaming and pointing fingers" at one breed or group. I have no idea why Tyrone Yates is being so cruel, not only to the poor pit bulls that are family members and their poor owners, rather family. Let's toughen up and increase the punishment toward the "human beings" that backyard breed and sell these innocent pups to people who raise them to fight and teach them by being cruel to them. I am ashamed to live in a state that would just kill innocent creatures. PLEASE DO NOT VOTE FOR THIS BILL.
I have owned my pitbull
I have owned my pitbull since he was 5 months he is now 4 years. He has proven to be the best and smartest and most friendly dog with every child, adult, and other canines. He has not once shown any aggression towards any dog or any child. He is a big baby that just licks everyone. We are able to make him scared of a small child's rubber ducky or just about anything else. I have already had to move out of one neighborhood because of some irresponsible pitbull owner letting there dogs run loose around the neighborhood which resulted in a pitbull ban of Greenhills, OH. That owners dog attacked another dog in greenhills, ohio. That owner was obviously not training or raising there dog right. A pitbull ban of all of Ohio is beyond ridiculous. Banning the breed does not stop anything the owners are the ones that need to be penalized.
Pit Bull Ban UNFAIR
I do not own , nor have I ever own such breed, However being involved with different dog groups and activities, I feel strongly that this is an extremely unfair law/ban. Many responsible dog owners love this breed and have very successful relationships with them. I do not support any law that bans any breed of dog. Laws should be stronger for the owners mistreating, abusing and or neglecting any breed. It has been proven time and time again that this breed can and does live harmoniously in family environments. Any animal can be dangerous under certain conditions, and so can humans. Some humans do more damage and are given many chances to make things right. Why not do the same for these dogs. Under no circumstance should our state deny these animals the right to a good and loving home. To destroy these beautiful creatures is barbaric and WRONG! I beg you to reconsider this law and rewrite it to protect Ohioans who take these animals into their homes and treat them properly and love them. How about a Fair Law with provisions for individual cases. Thankyou, Kathy J.
Pit Bull Law
I'm Sorry but I kinda have to agree with the law. I mean come on every person who has been attacked by a dog has been attacked by a pit. That dog should be put down. Actually ANY dog that shows agression should be put down, they are a danger to everyone. I am a pet owner, various different pets. If one of my dogs showed aggresion I would kill it myself, I have children and wont take that chance of them getting hurt. A dog can be replaced my child can not. They should how ever revise the bill, to where they can check the pit for aggresion if it shows aggresion then it gets put down if it doesn't show aggresion then it is left where it is. But this is just my opinion and everyone has one and has a right to theirs.
ARe You F***ing stupid
not every person that has been attacked by a pit...any dog could attack my cousin had 36 stiches from a lab and they own a pitbull....the only reason why people think there bad dogs is because there affraid...maybe some of you people need to be put to sleep...whats next putting are kids to sleep because of gang fighting...some peoples pets are like there kids...i think it should be considered rasism whats next passing a law for slavory again i mean come on people wht in the hell is wrong with you.....(owners to pitbulls or any beloved pet stand up for this take them down and dont let it happen fight for your rights or next it may be your beloved poodle)
ARE YOU BRAINDEAD OR JUST STUPID?
YOU SHOULD BE READING UP ON THE STATISTICS OF DOGS ATTACKS AND BITEES. BECAUSE NOT EVERY PERSON WHO HAS BEEN ATTACKE BY A DOG HAS BEEN ATTACKED BY A PIT. MY FRIENDS SON GOT ATTACKED BY A GOLDEN RETRIEVER. THAT'S A FAMILY DOG, THE MOST LIKELY FOR SOMEONE TO BUY FOR SMALL CHILDREN. WOULD I BE RIGHT IN SAYING BECAUSE HE GOT BIT THAT ALL ATTACKS HAVE BEEN BY THOSE DOGS. TALK ABOUT A NARROW PERSPECTIVE, AND NOT ALL ANIMALS SHOW AGRESSION WHEN TESTED. I HAVE TWO PITS THAT MY CHILDREN BOTH PLAY WITH AND LOVE. COME TELL MY KIDS THAT THEIR DOG SHOULD BE PUT DOWN BECAUSE OF YOUR NARROW MINDED BELIEFS!!!!!!!
Hey dumb ass this page is
Hey dumb ass this page is for people who are trying to save thier dogs an who love pitbulls it's not for cowards to say they are for the law pay attenetion. Any dog can be aggressive yes we know but the media an people like you only focus on the pitbull breed.
Where do you get your informaiton from
Where on earth did you get your information from? I have worked in the veterinary community for 17 years. I have never been bit by a pit bull. I have been bit by chihuahuas, chows, akitas, labs, and even a golden once. The fact is that it is not the breed, it is the way they were raised. I am all for a viscious dog law. If a dog bites without provication then yes it should be put down but that should be any breed.
The other fact is that the dogs they want to target (pits that are fought or owned by drug dealers) will still have those dogs - locked up in a basement somewhere out of sight. No registration or vaccination records so no way to find them. So really the owners that are responsible ones - have their dogs registered and vaccinated will be the ones they hunt down and kill. This is wrong on so many levels!!!
Every person who has been
Every person who has been attacked by a dog has been attacked by a pit???
Really??? How come only 10% of the dog bites in Lorain county in 2006 were by pits? 90% of the dog bites were not by pit bulls. This was in an article in the Lorain Journal.
You then say that any dog that shows aggression should be put down, exactly that is why H.B. no 366 should be passed which is a general vicious dog law that encompasses all dogs and owners.
My pits visit nursing homes are are used in 4-H competitions. Tell me that they should be taken away and euthanized.
You need to remember that with this bill all dogs that resemble and American Pit Bull Terrier can be confiscated and euthanized. Lab mixes, boxer mixes, mutts that may not have any pit in them at all but may resemble a pit.
Don't be so ignorant to want to ban a breed. The owners of all dogs need to be responsible and punished for not being a good dog owner.
You are wrong every person
You are wrong every person that has been attacked by a dog has not been attack by a pitbull. I only been bitten by a chiuahua. I don't know anyone that has been bitten by a pitbull. If you read the statistics pitbulls attacks are less than any other breed. The media just hypes it up and you all believe them.
