Flooding in MO and IL - Animals Need Help!

FloodingThere is flooding in MO and IL including the town of Piedmont, MO where animals in the shelter drowned. Many were saved and now, they are finding strays that need fosters. A temporary shelter may be set up. Supplies are needed.

The shelter in Franklin County, IL in Benton, IL is flooded, and there is flooding in Darien, IL.

This is just the beginning. Please use this Forum to post information about the flooding and animals in danger and how people can help.

Sally Matay's e-mail address correction

Sally Matay's e-mail was missing a "y' in it, so it should have read:

SHELTERS/RESCUE GROUPS & TRANSPORT HELP: People who can help with transports and other shelters/rescues
who can help take in animals should contact the founder of the Illinois Animal Rescue Coalition, Sally Matay at curtsshorty67@aol.com

Update as of 3/24 on IL 3 Flooded Shelters

I just received this update from Lori on how things are shaking out after the weekend, and it's been crazy, but it's also so heartwarming how many people have offered all sorts of help. Please read the update they sent to me below, and see where you can fit in best if you can help. If something's not clear, don't hesitate to ask for a clarification. Please cross post or forward this anywhere you can. That too will help. I feel so badly about the animals and volunteers who are getting sick from flood waters. Christel Sparks AKA NightVine

FOSTERING A DOG OR CAT IN THE CHICAGO AREA: If someone wants to foster a dog or cat for A Caring Place Humane Society who is rescuing animals from these sites, they can read our foster guidelines; if they would still like to foster, they should go to our website and complete our online foster care questionnaire. A volunteer will get back to them as quickly as possible this week. www.acaringplacehs.org Foster guidelines are attached here.

UPDATES: I will be providing an update about the situation and responses on our website within the next day or two. People can check back for more info. www.acaringplacehs.org Below is the latest on the three shelters and their needs.

Franklin County Animal Control has been able to move out many dogs this weekend into rescue so they will not be euthanizing this week. The dogs and puppies are still living outside. Igloo style INSULATED dog houses are still needed. Monetary donations for those dog houses can be sent to: Franklin County Animal Rescue, Attn: Dottie Darr, 13776 State Hwy 14, Benton IL 62812 MARK CHECK IN MEMO SECTION - for insulated dog houses

St. Francis C.A.R.E. in Anna, IL which was under water late last week has greatly improved. The water has receeded and volunteers from the University have gone into the shelter and started cleaning. Animals will be able to be returned to the facility soon. Donations for this group can be sent through PayPal on their website: www.petfinder.com/shelters/IL50.html

A Caring Place Humane Society of Darien, IL, who is taking in dogs and cats from both of these shelters, is in need of monetary donations to assist with the veterarinary costs. Donations can be sent through PayPal on their website: www.acaringplacehs.org
or sent to A Caring Place Humane Society, PO Box 2481, Darien IL 60561

I hope this answers your question.

Again, thank you very much for stepping up to help.

Sincerely,

RE: Update as of 3/24 on IL 3 Flooded Shelters

Due to the tremendous outpouring of compassion directed towards the victims of the flooding in Southern Illinois, both the shelters and their precious animals, there has been some confusion concerning who folks should contact with offers of help. With permission from Michelle Parson (President) and Lori Dedic (Vice President) of A Caring Place Humane Society, updated and accurate information regarding the help that is still needed and who to contact can be found on my website:

http://www.trunewfsrescue.com

Until A Caring Place Humane Society can post this information on their website, http://www.acaringplacehs.org , anyone able to offer assistance (adoption, foster care, monetary donation, transport, etc.) should refer to my website.

Many thanks for everyone's help. Permission to crosspost.

There is also another IL shelter that has been hit hard by the floods. St Francis in Anna, IL. Thankfully their animals were safely evacuated, but the shelter was severly damaged, and their supplies have been lost to the flood. Here is a cross posting of an update about some of their needs, and where to send:

I had a long phone conversation with Donna Hawk this evening. Animals are safe and accounted for. SIU sent in the Golf team and the football players to wet vac and clean everything. But much was washed I away in the 2 foot deep water that came thru very swiftly. What they desperately need is supplies to replenish what was washed away. They need household supplies, dog and cat food, crates, bleach, blankets and towels. Gift cards would be perfect. The address is:

St. Francis Care Animal shelter
1235 Spanish Bluff
Anna, IL 62906
Attn: Donna Hawk

Please pass this on to your animal loving friends. This is the only no-kill shelter in the area. Let's support them and their mission.

SHELTER OVERWHELMED, PLEA FOR HELP:
From bjkalmbach@yahoo.com yahoo.com , nightvine@yahoo.com yahoo.com -- I write again out of
desperation for Franklin County Animal Control in Benton, IL. This pound suffered devastating loss during Thanksgiving week when a fire burned their main building to the ground, killing over 50 animals. Since that time, volunteers and staff have continued taking in animals...with minimal facilities. They've housed cats and kittens in a storage shed and dogs and puppies have been living in OUTDOOR kennel runs -- even through the coldest and snowiest parts of winter.

Now Franklin County faces a new problem --
RAIN AND FLOODING. Please read the note from the director there....

Darien, Illinois, from michelle.parson@comcast.net comcast.net -- Conditions getting
worse. It's rained constantly for 2 days. Places in West Frankfort (6 miles away) had to evacuate homes and called to pick up pets. Dottie and I set up
our garages for animals. Dottie has all the puppies in her garage plus she has Brownie (the dog with broken leg), the puppy with the pins in its leg, another adult dog and all her own pets. I have Moonbeam and another old
adult dog who belongs to a homeless woman...in my garage in cages...the 6 survivor puppies in in my cat room, 2 other adult cats in my cat room and 3
cats in cages in my back bedroom plus all my own animals.

PLEASE PLEASE BEG PEOPLE TO HELP US. We've both been out in the rain for the last 2 days getting soaked trying to get tarps back up and help all these
animals, but the situation is hopeless... They will euthanize large numbers of animals by Monday if we and other rescues don't help them.
