Everyday we hear and read about heartbreaking cases of animal cruelty. The suffering inflicted on animals is obvious. But many of these cases are simply not prosecuted or at least not prosecuted aggressively. Part of the reason may be because of vague animal cruelty laws. This makes it difficult to prove a crime was committed. Many times, though, animal cruelty cases are simply not a priority for prosecutors. They may be overwhelmed with prosecuting crimes to people. It may simply be a matter of education and awareness. Certainly, it might help for prosecutors to know about the "link" between animal cruelty and domestic and other violence to humans. Animal cruelty is a strong indicator the perpetrator is likely to commit domestic violence including child abuse and other violent acts.
